I robbed the service station on 13th and South
I had lost my straight job, and so had Kathleen
Hers and my supply had run out of methamphetamine
It was my brother's pistol, but he had moved away
and in the crawlspace it had remained patient for that day
The girl behind the counter, no more than twenty-four
That old Jack of Diamonds was tattooed on her arm
She did not push the button, but she must have moved too sharp
I pulled the trigger, turned around, and ran into the dark
Follow your headlights, mind not to go too fast
Hear that pistol's sharp report, see its blinding muzzle flash
I don't know if I killed her, the papers didn't say
